Ten Years and Thousands of Students!

At Repairing Together, we believe in the power of connection and community. Our mission is to bring together students from diverse backgrounds in K-8 schools in the Milwaukee area. Through engaging social, cultural, and environmental programming, we create a platform for students to learn and grow together. Since our inception in 2016, we have expanded our reach from just two schools and 80 students to over 1,000 students annually. Repairing Together foster empathy, understanding and friendships.

Elsie created Repairing Together and has been leading it since. She is a native of the Netherlands where she earned a degree in Spanish-Dutch translation/interpretation. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Elsie worked for the Dutch Library Association co-developing literacy programs for new immigrants and young adults with learnin

Elsie created Repairing Together and has been leading it since. She is a native of the Netherlands where she earned a degree in Spanish-Dutch translation/interpretation. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Elsie worked for the Dutch Library Association co-developing literacy programs for new immigrants and young adults with learning disabilities. She also worked as a lobbyist with the European Commission on Culture on legislation for European libraries, documentation centers and universities. Elsie is fluent in Dutch, English, French, Spanish, Hebrew and German. She worked for 9 years at the Milwaukee Jewish Federation managing cultural relationships and delegations between Milwaukee and Israel. Worried that the obvious racial disparities and inequity in society would imprint on young students instead of teaching them openness, curiosity towards others, acceptance and friendships.

Bobby comes to Repairing Together after spending  three years in urban education in New York City. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Journalism and Political Science. After graduating, he spent a year in Israel teaching English in a school primarily serving recent immigrants. Bobby spent the next three years

Bobby comes to Repairing Together after spending  three years in urban education in New York City. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Journalism and Political Science. After graduating, he spent a year in Israel teaching English in a school primarily serving recent immigrants. Bobby spent the next three years teaching third and fourth grade in Brooklyn, helping students navigate the pandemic and return to in-person learning. He brings a passion for social justice, education and history with hopes to combine these into a program where students collaborate and bond over their shared histories and turn into lifelong allies for marginalized communities.

 Jason is the  Chair of the Advisory Board of Repairing Together. As a member of the Bad River Band of Ojibwe, he serves as the Executive Director of the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), where he leads national advocacy, policy, and programmatic efforts to advance educational sovereignty and support Native students, educators

 Jason is the  Chair of the Advisory Board of Repairing Together. As a member of the Bad River Band of Ojibwe, he serves as the Executive Director of the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), where he leads national advocacy, policy, and programmatic efforts to advance educational sovereignty and support Native students, educators, and communities across the United States. Prior to joining NIEA, Jason served as School Administrator of the Indian Community School in Franklin, Wisconsin, where he was known for his steady leadership, community-centered decision-making, and commitment to culturally grounded education. With more than two decades in education, Jason is a respected voice on educational equity, tribal sovereignty, and systems-level leadership. He has been a frequent presenter and collaborator with tribal nations, schools, universities, and national partners, helping to shape educational policy and strengthen opportunities for learners. Jason is a dedicated family man, lifelong learner, and advocate for building strong, culturally rooted pathways for the next generation.

Prior to this position, she spent two decades working within the Jewish community with a focus on building bridges between people and communities, cultivating belonging, inclusion and countering polarization through personal relationships. Elana ser

 Elana is Executive Director of the Illinois Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes. Prior to this position, she spent two decades working within the Jewish community with a focus on building bridges between people and communities, cultivating belonging, inclusion and countering polarization through personal relationships. Elana served as Director of Milwaukee's Jewish Community Relations Council (which also responds and works to prevent antisemitism and other forms of hate), Editor of the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle, and Associate Dean for Outreach at Sertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in Chicago. She is mother to two adult daughters.

Mark is an experienced educator, lecturer and curriculum specialist in American Indian history and culture. As a parent of four children, he was

Repairing Together Vice-Chair, has been a Research Consultant since 2009 for Wraparound Milwaukee, a program that serves adjudicated youth who have been diagnosed with mental illness. She has over 40 years of experience with children and youth who experience mental & behavioral health issues in a breadth of professional arenas including public and private schools, hospitals, clinics and universities. She has served as an educator, teacher trainer, school consultant, curriculum developer and researcher.
